Peter Bungate is an Australian-qualified lawyer with expertise in both M&A and projects-related transactions, and corporate compliance, risk management and global investigations. With over a decade of experience in Japan, Peter is well versed in the commercial and cultural intricacies of the Japanese market.
Peter has extensive experience advising on both outbound and inbound cross-border matters with a focus on the energy and major projects practice areas. He frequently represents large conglomerates, trading companies, quasi-governmental institutions and other stakeholders on the acquisition and development of energy and infrastructure projects, encompassing both conventional and emerging power sectors. In addition, he regularly advises on all aspects of complex M&A transactions across a variety of industries and jurisdictions.
Peter also has depth of experience advising large corporates on a wide range of compliance and investigation matters, including:
– Conducting an in-depth review of key compliance risk areas for a listed Japanese semiconductor company and its overseas subsidiaries in the US, UK and Europe;
– Advising a Japanese automotive company on a multi-jurisdictional voluntary investigation involving regulatory agencies in the U.S., Australia and Japan;
– Advising a Japanese logistics company on whistleblowing reports at its Australian subsidiary;
– Advising a global pharmaceutical company on whistleblowing reports at its Japanese subsidiary; and
– Advising a Japanese automotive company on several internal workplace investigations.
