We are pleased to announce that in January 2024, an individual seeking refugee status, to whom Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu (“NO&T”) provided legal assistance, was granted refugee status.
Ayumi Fukuhara, a partner at our firm, served as the individual’s proxy during the application process.
In 2022, of the total applications processed in Japan, only 187 applicants were approved for residency in Japan under Japan’s refugee status application process, and this represents an approval rate (i.e., the number of individuals approved/number of cases processed) of only approximately 2.6%.
As part of our ongoing commitment to pro bono activities, we will continue to provide assistance to individuals seeking refugee status in Japan.
