As a first for the firm, Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu ("NO&T") held a public symposium titled "The Ways of New Trusts – Commercial Trusts, Securities Investment Trusts, and J-REITs -" at the Sankei Plaza from 10:30 am until 5:30 pm on February 19, 2001. Professors John Langbein and Tamar Frankel, authorities in the field of trust law in the U.S., in addition to Prof. Norio Higuchi, Prof. Hedeki Kanda and Associate Professor Tomotaka Fujita of the University of Tokyo, and five first-line practitioners, including Satoshi Inoue and Shunpei Tanaka of Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, were the lecturer and panelists. The symposium was able to achieve success in terms of the level, content and participants (approximately 350 participants and over 500 applicants).
