
Mr. Hiroyuki Kanno graduated from the Tohoku University School of Law in 1978, and was appointed as a judge in 1980 (the Tokyo District Court). After serving as a Judicial Research Officer of the Supreme Court, Presiding Judge of the Tokyo District Court, Presiding Judge of the Tokyo High Court, and President of the Osaka High Court, he served as a Justice of the Supreme Court from 2016 to 2022. After his retirement from the bench, he joined Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu as a special advisor. During his tenure on the bench, Mr. Kanno worked to reform civil litigation procedures to meet the needs of society and strengthen specialized litigation, as well as to strengthen the Japanese economy through corporate reorganization and other legal restructuring procedures. During this period, he heard cases primarily involving administrative proceedings, tax litigation, labor litigation, corporate litigation, non-contentious commercial matters, construction litigation, non-contentious land lease matters, medical litigation, and other specialized litigation. During his time at the Supreme Court, he was involved in a variety of civil, administrative and criminal cases, totaling over 10,000 cases. His extensive experience and expertise will enhance our dispute resolution practice.
